The Lodge sits on Lookout Mountain outside Mentone, between DeSoto State Park and Little River Canyon. You can hike a waterfall in the morning and be back on the deck with coffee before the fog lifts out of the valley.
It is a full house rather than a one-room cabin: 6 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, sleeping up to 20, so the whole family or group stays together.

When to come
Late October is the busiest stretch, when the valley turns and the overlooks fill up. Spring runs the waterfalls hardest. Summer is the quiet green season and the hot tub gets used year round. Winter mornings often start with fog sitting below the deck, which is the view most guests end up photographing.
Most dates have a 2-night minimum, and Sunday through Thursday nights start at $375 plus cleaning.
Stay on the mountain, not in town
Fort Payne hotels are 20 minutes down the mountain. Staying up here means the trailheads are close, the sunrise is out your window and your group has a kitchen, a hot tub and a game room instead of two hotel rooms.
